David Garza’s on-going aspirational career purpose is to advise and guide business owners through the challenges and opportunities associated with their workforce and its talent within their business growth strategy and plan.
He is Founder, Managing Director, & CEO for COMPASS Human Capital Advisors. While leading COMPASS, David has supported growing business organizations across a multitude of industries that include retail, transportation, wholesale distribution, manufacturing, non-profit, agricultural, construction, landscaping, and education industry sectors. Additionally, David has worked with private equity firms to support the turnaround of their portfolio companies.
Founded in 2011, COMPASS has evolved from providing interim CHRO/VPHR services to developing solutions for businesses with regard to scaling their workforce to support growth plans and optimizing the talent of their workforce to eet business strategy and goals. Whether providing guidance through the sensitive process of separating a long-term leader, helping source and hire a new executive, or restructuring a business function and department, COMPASS offers business owners senior level HR experience and expertise that may not be readily available to them in their current growth phase, for a fraction of the cost of employing an HR executive.
Personally, David has held HR leadership positions in various industries for notable companies that include Temple-Inland, Merck, The Regus Group, and Mission Foods. In each role, he progressively applied his expertise with each company’s workforce to achieve a greater focus on business alignment, culture enhancement, talent readiness, performance optimization, people engagement, and employee well-being.
David is a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran, having served in Operation Desert Storm, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for Valor, for his combat service and heroism under enemy fire.
He has volunteered for 5 years as a member and Secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, and he has served for the past 7 years as a parent volunteer with his children’s high school band program in the highly acclaimed Frisco Independent School District in Frisco, Texas.
David is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he received a BS in Engineering with a focus of study in Organizational Behavior and Leadership. He was a Consortium for Graduate Study in Management Fellowship recipient to the University of Texas at Austin- McCombs School of Business, where he earned an MBA in Management. As an innovative and strategic thought leader, David authored a HR/business improvement book titled Disrupting HR: An Introduction to a New HR Doctrine.
David’s record reflects a career of leadership commitment, innovative creativity, demanding educational experiences, devoted service to others, and courage & resilience in the face of adversity. He brings all of that to COMPASS and its clients.
