Brian is a banking executive, with experience providing debt capital market solutions to middle market borrowers, investment grade companies and/or private equity sponsors. He has worked across multiple functions including relationship management / corporate development (including M&A), capital markets, underwriting and portfolio management.
Brian has a solid understanding of different types of transactions, industries, and banking products and can effectively represent organizations that are looking for debt funding or looking to refinance debt. He has successfully closed more than $2 billion in structured finance transaction commitments to support leveraged buyouts (M&A), dividend recapitalizations, provide growth capital and/or restructure poorly performing loans.
Most recently, Brian worked on developing a leveraged finance cash flow platform at Bank Leumi. This involved developing the strategy for sourcing new transactions, and the appropriate infrastructure to build out the platform (originators, underwriters, portfolio managers and capital market professionals), as well as the underwriting tools (LBO financial model, valuation model and underwriting template) to facilitate the approval of these transactions. Through this strategy, the team successfully closed three leveraged cash flow deals, generating $75 million in debt commitments that allowed middle market borrowers and private equity sponsors to finance mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to this, Brian worked at CIT Group, where he was able to raise debt capital through various commercial banks, regional banks, business development companies, and other financial institutions. This allowed the successful syndication of a $425 million facility to seventeen different syndication partners, a $125 million cross-border facility to all the major UK based banks, and a $100 million facility to four different US based commercial banks. In addition, Brian managed underwriting and portfolio management teams that closed and administered more than $1 billion in transaction commitments. He has also successfully restructured an ~$85 million portfolio of poorly performing restaurant loans and leases, with no losses.
Prior to CIT Group, Brian served as an underwriter and portfolio manager on a front-office Leveraged Finance team that provided multi-million-dollar financings to Restaurant, Retail and Consumer clients. He financed many well-known restaurant operators including the take-private of California Pizza Kitchen by Golden Gate Capital, the acquisition of Rock Bottom Restaurants and Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant Group by Centerbridge Capital Partners, casino operators including Penn National Gaming and Las Vegas Sands, and other hospitality operators.
In an earlier role at GE Capital, he worked on a Corporate Development team that closed three sizable acquisitions that included Trustreet, Merrill Lynch Capital and Citi Capital.
Brian continues to work as a Managing Director (Capital Markets, Treasury and Banking) to assist businesses in transition periods or in need of an executive level capital markets professional without the expense associated with hiring a full time professional. He knows what banks and other providers of capital want and need, in order to agree to a transaction, and he knows how they think.
